With the downstairs bathrooms almost finished, this month we started with the construction in the kitchen. We had refurbished a lot of the main building when we first bought the property, but we never did too much with the kitchen and bathroom. There were water problems that needed to be fixed, walls that needed to be taken down to make more space, and the counterspace and floors to be updated. Taking the weight-bearing wall down was a big undertaking. These walls were built with the old construction of stacking boulders on top of each other. So, as the workers took the wall down piece by piece, they also had to have the ceiling supported as there is a second floor above it. After 4 weeks of construction and not having a kitchen (yet still keeping the cafe open), we think we can finally see the completion of this project sometime next week. We are looking forward to all of the ministries that will be blessed by this updated kitchen.
We were very fortunate to not have any damage from hurricane Beryl. As we saw how strong it was before it came our way, we prepared for it the best we could. We were in the direct path of the eye. But when it came over us, it passed by quickly as category one. Because of its speed of moving forward, we didn't get too much rain. Thank you all for keeping us in your prayers.
Every July the fair comes in town. This year it was a bit different. There were more rides, the equipment seemed to be newer. We normally don't go out to it, except for Noah with his friends, but this time we went and enjoyed it. Natalie also took the youth worship team out one night to it just have a night of fun.
This month both Natalie and her mom celebrated their birthdays. Len and the boys took Natalie out to dinner in Merida and then when we came back to Motul, some people from the church planned a surprise party for her at the church café. They had decorations, food, and a gelatin birthday cake. For Natalie's mom's birthday, Natalie and Caleb picked her up early one morning and surprised her with a ride on a horse at a ranch. As she has seen them ride down her street when she sits outside on her porch, she has mentioned before that she would like to try riding one. This day made a special memory.
