This month we planned for a big night at the church café as Valentine's Day fell on a Friday. We set up every cafe table we had and even stayed open an extra hour. Cakes and cupcakes were decorated in pink and red as we also had sugar cookie conversation hearts. It was the busiest night in our café history. At one point every table was filled. We had 3 employees working with Natalie that night and they didn't finish up until almost one in the morning. Many new customers came for their first time. Praise God for a great night and we hope to see them return.
Last year we started the "feed-the-kids" program. This ministry's goal was reach families in Motul that don't come to our church and meet the most basic of needs and share a meal in a time of need. For kids 9 and under, a free kid's lunch was given to them after church service on Sundays; and at a very economic price, an adult lunch was offered to everyone else. We tested this ministry out for a little while with just our church body and later when we had enough volunteers and had everything working smoothly, we started reaching out to the community and getting the word out to the city. For months we didn't receive any response. There is such a great wall for people to break through to come to a Christian church, even if it means they will get free food. So, for now, we are pausing the ministry until a later time. We will continue to love and reach the people of Motul in other ways and pray that they will meet Jesus and come to know Him personally.
The youth worship team for the Children's Ministry at the moment is small, but they have a good time! Each of them has been serving faithfully as they learn the songs and lead the kids in worship on Sundays. This ministry meets once a month and practices any new songs that they need to learn and plan out the following month's worship schedule. Afterwards, they all get something yummy from the church cafe and head back to their table to play some board games. This month Natalie video recorded their first song for VBS to help teach others the dance movements so they could learn them also.
