Our furlough time has come and gone and now we have been back home for almost 2 weeks.  Our final preparations for the café church are almost complete.  We will officially open this Tuesday, November 3rd.  We are so excited!  Our plan is for the café to be open Tuesday-Friday from 12pm-3pm, close for a few hours and then reopen from 7pm-10pm.  These hours seem busy in the Centro with the afternoon shift being filled with kids getting out of school, and the night shift with families.  We just want to serve the people here and make friendships to share our lives with them and most importantly - Jesus.  This month we will also be opening on Sunday nights for church service – Calvary Chapel Motul!

On Saturday, November 14, we will be starting up the youth ministry for Calvary Chapel Centro (Robert Aguayo’s church).  Len will be teaching week to week and leading this ministry as Natalie will be supporting with the planning, worship and tech teams.  Please pray for the Lord to provide different ladies in the church to be able to serve and watch our boys at the church there during the youth service so both of us can serve together in this ministry.

We started out this month with our time of furlough continuing on in South Florida.  We had the opportunity to be interviewed on the radio with Anitra at Reach FM.  It was so much fun.  At Calvary’s school, Noah had the privilege of taking over the CCA elementary chapel for a 30-minute slot.  He did so great sharing about Mexico with all the kids and we were so very proud of him.  All of the kindergarten classes blessed us with donating Duplo Legos to take back with us for the Sunday school room.  What a blessing!

We continued to visit and share at so many different churches all throughout Florida.  We pray that hearts were stirred up for missions and people will get involved in some way.  We got to see both new and old friends, spend time with family, and it seemed that every minute was filled up with something to do.  We are in awe of how many times God used different people to bless us.  We are truly thankful.  One of those blessings was a trip to Legoland and the Legoland hotel that our good friends gave to our family.  The boys had such a blast and loved every minute of it.  It was the perfect little mini vacation for our family.  We wrote down every time He used someone to bless our family so we can remember the goodness and faithfulness of the Lord.

The Halloween weekend has begun and things over here are quite different than the states.  They started celebrating on Friday with having a parade in the streets with kids dressed up like the dead carrying candles and flowers.  They also had set up altars in the Centro Park for people to come lay their offerings of chocolates, different foods, and items to the dead.  Day of the Dead is celebrated from October 31 till November 02.  The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.  Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. They also leave possessions of the deceased. The graves are cleaned and decorated with candles, paper streamers, and seasonal flowers such as marigolds.  Markets and shops throughout Mexico sell toys and candy in the form of macabre symbols such as skeletons, coffins, and the personification of death. Many families have special gatherings at cemeteries to honor dead relatives on November 1 and 2.  Altars are set up in homes to honor dead relatives. These are adorned with favorite meals as offerings, photos, candles, flowers, and candy skulls inscribed with the name of the deceased. Incense sticks are lit to help souls find their way.

As all of these new ministries are getting ready to start this month, we know and have been expecting the enemy to attack.  This past week has had its trials with Natalie’s eye getting injured, Caleb getting sick, and car trouble.  Please keep us in your prayers especially this month that the Lord would protect our family from sickness, bond our marriage, and unite our family to work together in love.

We are confident that the Lord placed our family here in Motul to bring the light, truth, and hope of Jesus Christ.  We pray that others will join us to help us with this journey to bring the good news that will save them from their sin.  Please visit our PRAYER page and HELP MOTUL page to see how you can get involved.
