This month we had many festive events. We started off with the first Saturday baking almost 500 Christmas sugar cookies for the café and December events. A few of the women from the church came to learn how to make them from scratch. Most people don’t even have an oven here nor do they make cookies for the holidays, so this was pretty much a first for everyone. They learned how to make the dough, roll it out, cut and bake. They were very so proud in the end to have made these.
The next Saturday a group of us hopped on a combi (public transportation van) in Motul and headed to Merida that morning. Calvary Centro invited the women from our church to join them for their women’s Christmas breakfast. Fourteen women were able to go and were blessed as we had a time of food, fellowship, teaching, and worship.
We wanted to give you an update on our paperwork concerning immigration. In order to leave the country as planned for our furlough, we had to begin a new process. We needed to apply for permission to leave the country for 60 days. We used our same lawyer and we got on it right away. We were able to obtain the papers we needed before Christmas. When we return in February, we have a new appointment to continue our process for our temporary residence cards at the immigration office. Even though it cost more money to go through this additional application, we are very thankful that we are able to go on furlough. Thank you all for praying.
The following Saturday we had our second garage sale to try to sell the things we had left over from the first one. We didn’t sell as much, but still every bit helps. All the proceeds went to helping pay the expenses of the new church building. Some of the guys from the church were able to take the outdoor playset down at our current location and take it over to the new property. Some of the wood had to be replaced since there was some damage by termites. They also transferred a lot of the grass and were able to put it down in the outdoor play area at the new property. The Lord provided again this month for us to meet the $1,000 payment. Only 9 more payments to go and then the property is legally in our ownership. Please continue to pray for the Lord’s provision in meeting these payments, but also for the construction costs. In this next month we plan to put new tile down in three of the rooms – 2 of the café rooms and the nursery room.
Just a week before Christmas, we had Ashley and her sister, Sabrina, come stay with us for a week. Ashley came in the past with Boca Calvary HSM on three different mission trips in the past 2 years. We were excited to have them both. They helped in the café, baked with Natalie, taught Sunday school, hung out with people from our church, and played with our boys. They were such a blessing and help during what ended up being our busiest week on record yet in the café ministry.
We had our Christmas service at our regular service time on Sunday morning at 10am. It was a joyous time to celebrate the birth of our Savior together. We continue to pray for the family members who don’t know Jesus personally. We will continue to shine and share the love of Christ with all who will hear.
In mid-December we finished our parenting classes on Wednesday nights. We pray that the Word of God and the lessons learned helped equip these parents to be godly and wise as they raise their children. The following Wednesday we had a family Christmas cookie decorating contest. Kids 12 and under participated as well as the adults had their own competition. Each received three sugar cookies and three icing colors to decorate how they wish along with many choices of toppings. They each chose only one of those cookies to enter the contest and the judges decided on 1st and 2nd place. The 1st and 2nd place winners received small prizes. Everyone had such a good time as it was a lot of fun. We will definitely do this again next year!
On January 14, we will be getting on a plane and heading to South Florida to start our 1-month furlough. This will be a time of us sharing with small groups and churches of what the Lord is doing here. Please pray that many hearts will be touched. Our next step is to raise funds to build the new sanctuary. We pray many will catch the vision and will want to get involved. Our furlough will also be a time of rest and a time to see our families. As we only go back on furlough every 1½ - 2 years, it has been a while since we have seen them. We would also like to see you! Check our calendar below and see if you can meet us at any of our planned locations. We will be all over the state of Florida so hopefully we get the chance to see many of you.
